About This Course

Electric recliner / lift chairs are commonly seen within our community and residential aged care facilities. They can assist clients with sit to stand transfers, as well as comfort and positioning when seated in their chairs for extended times. 

This on-demand training is approximately 20 minutes (17 minutes to be exact!) and covers:

  • The purpose of electric lift / recliner chair prescription, including differences between motors, features and fabrics.
  • Assessment including person; environment and risk considerations
  • Consideration of alternative options which may be prescribed to support clients functional needs and goals
  • Maintenance considerations once an electric lift / recliner chair is prescribed to ensure ongoing safety and suitability

Our Instructor

This course is instructed by Rachael Hayes (B Occupational Therapy, Honours), AHPRA registered Occupational Therapist.

Rachael is an Occupational Therapist entering her 5th year of clinical practice, working within the paediatric, aged care and disability sectors, to support individuals to increase their independence and engagement in activities that are important to them. 

Rachael has worked across both the aged care and disability funding bodies, providing assessment and recommendations for required supports, equipment, assistive technology, skill development and home modifications. 

Rachael thrives in collaborating with clients and their key supports to achieve client / family centred practice, to assist in the achievement of their individualised goals and enhance their quality of life. Rachael is a part of our Community Therapy OT Clinical Support team, and is passionate about empowering other allied health clinicians to feel confident in their service provision and skillset, to improve client outcomes and experiences within the health sector.

    While we do display some specific brands and products to support learning – we focus on general features, which can be found across many different brands. This allows clinicians to learn about the features their client requires, rather than just knowledge around popular brands on the market. This also supports rural clinicians who may not have access to specific brands – allowing them to discuss with suppliers what features they may need to address functional needs.

  • I have prescribed ERCs before, will this course assist me?

    Yes! This course is targeted to health professionals who are both new to prescribing this type of equipment as well as those who are looking for a refresher, to stay up to date with best practice principles.

    We also provide several FREE resources including an assessment tool, that can assist you with improving your competence and confidence when prescribing ERCs.
